Togolese President wins Election For Third Term

Togo's president wins re-election

At a point I thought Africa was moving forward when president Jonathan broke the African Jinx of 2nd tenure but here is Faure winning the presidential election for the 3rd time.

The Togolese president Faure Gnassingbe has won re-election for the third term in office.

The results which was announced by election commission chairman Taffa Tabiou late Tuesday night gave Gnassingbe about 59 percent of the vote in Saturday’s election. while the leading opposition candidate Jean Pierre Fabre had 35 percent of the vote.

Gnassingbe has ruled since the death of his father, Gnassingbe Eyadema, who took power in a coup in 1967. The Gnassingbe family has ruled Togo for half a century.

Is this a monarchial system?
