Dr Jide Idris, the Lagos state Commissioner for Health, said there are now eight suspected cases of Ebola in Lagos, yesterday. These eight are those who had direct contact with Liberian Patrick Sawyer, who died of Ebola shortly after arriving Lagos last month. But only one case of Ebola has been confirmed while seven others have been quarantined even though they have not shown any symptoms of the disease so far, Dr Idris said.
Meanwhile about 30 Doctors who among the striking doctors have volunteered to attend to victims with the Ebola related cases, this was revealed by Doctor Ojo, the chairman of Nigeria Medical Association in Lagos. Dr Ojo also expressed the fear of the Doctors concerning the rapid infection the virus has towards the doctor and promised to ensure that all is ready to prevent doctors falling victim of the virus. Dr Ojo's statement in part;
“Our doctors are worried about the danger it (Ebola virus) poses to their lives and they need to be reassured. We understand their fears and we are making moves to confirm the level of preparedness of the government for doctors.”
