The court yesterday upheld Dr willie Obiano as the Governor of Anambra In Akwa.
The petitions which was signed by Action Congress of Nigeria (APC) Senator Chris Ngige, Comrade Tony Nwoye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) factional aspirant, Dr. Chike Obidigbo, to unseat Governor Obiano in the election which took place last year was dismissed by Justice Ishaq Bello led tribunal for lack of merit.
According to sun news, In the judgments that lasted for over six hours and delivered by the Tribunal’s Chairman, Justice Bello, the tribunal held that the petitioners could not prove their cases and therefore, resolved all the allegations made against the governor and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in respect of the November, 2013 governorship election by the aggrieved parties in favour of the respondents. It also held that the petitioners failed woefully to establish their claims that Governor Obiano was not qualified to stand for the election and that the conduct of the governorship election was marred by large-scale electoral malpractices, including disenfranchisement of registered voters, non-display of voters’ register, voting by under-aged persons, among others.
After reviewing the grounds of Obidigbo’s petition vis -a -vis the evidence he proffered, Justice Bello resolved all the issues in favour of Obiano and other respondents, holding that Obidigbo had no locus standi to bring the action as he failed to show that he was a candidate in the election.
