EX-GOVERNOR, IKEDI OHAKIM'S HOUSE BOMBED IN OWERRI

“This is the only building I have in this state", these were the words of Chief Ikedi Ohakim, the former governor of Imo state when he saw his bombed house on Thursday morning. Fortunately, for Chief Ohakim he was not at the house when the horrific act took place at his Owerri residence.

According to the former governor who was deeply saddened by the incident,he alleged that this is the handiwork of his political opponents because of his planned declarations to run for the 2015 elections, but he said he will not be deterred. Chief Ohakim said he got a call from the security details  at about 1:30am informing him of the tragic incident and got to the scene of the incident by 6:30am.

Ohakim alleged that some roofs were opened from outside the lobby before the suspected hoodlums threw in the bomb(locally made explosives).

“This is the only building I have in this state, I built it in 1992 when I was a commissioner, now I have to knock at people’s door to have a place to sleep,” he added.

However, Ohakim expressed gratitude to God that there was no loss of lives in the unfortunate incident. He said he arrived Owerri in the evening of the incident from abroad where he went for medical checkup and wanted to sleep in the house, but later decided to proceed to his country home in Okohia in Isiala Mbano local government to pass the night.
