As usual, like every other day we leave our neighbourhood very early we could get to Ikoyi-Lagos on time for work. If you are familiar with the territorial land of Lagos then you will know what I mean.Today, I had my very first experience. I have had tales about it, seen it almost happen to someone but I have never been face to face with any of them.
We left home about 5:15am, I tag along with a senior friend who passes by my work place so she drops me off before going to hers. At about 5:50, we were at the connecting bridge of mile 2(festac side) to orile road, the Apapa road. Continue below....
There were about 4 of us in the car, three ladies and the man driving. My friend asked if we had locked the car doors, we checked and locked them, that is the security measures we take when we ride. We were at the link bridge between Mile 2 and orile road, when a young man came close to the car, he flashed his little torch light into the car from the side glass. He looked at the car, our hands like he was looking for something in particular. then he walked away.
I cant explain it. My friend said that he is a Policeman, but we said no that he wasn't. We just stared at him while he checked the car.
It was after he had left, we realized his intentions. We were just in split secs of being robbed, Thank God the cars were locked, glasses were up and we had no phones or money or ipads placed in the open.
The guy crossed over to the other side of the road and told his other counterparts who stood by the road watching us. we suspected they maybe the truck drivers from the oil truck, because there were some oil trucks by the road side which hides them from being seen by motorist. I am unsure though.
The truth is that incidents like this is very common on that route and other areas too. about two weeks ago at Ajah park, before CMS, two young men headed straight for a taxi cab carrying a man going to work, this was about 6:30 am too. The cab driver suspected it, but I don't know the juju he has, he came down from the car and spoke to them, and they apologized and left him.
other motorist driving see this but everyone is too scared to do anything they just watch. In places where the police are on duty like CMS, Mile2 they work hand-in-hand with these criminals, because they know they are there.
And these men are young able bodied men, some of them are not upto 30 years old, can't they be more useful biko?
