Article: Unemployment a Huge Challenge that dosen't Show on the Face

Everyday, someone walks into my office(front desk), looking all stylish, million dollar suite, stilettoes shoes, some model like, sometimes I am carried away by their presence. I begin to smile sheeplishly with this big grin on my face looking forward to a big sale. That moment you see them with all these aura and swag, thinking they are the potential client and the millions is about to drop, your hope is dashed because the  next thing they voice out crashes the Nigerian dream.
He/She will come so close to you as if to whisper sweet nothing to you and he says "is there any vacancy".

Continue after the cut....

And with that melting fake smiles the customer relation's officer always put on I dash their hopes "I say No".
I see that look on their face, another day with no luck. If you Have been there(like me) you know what I mean.

Most of them will always insist on submitting their Curriculum Vitae, even though I would want to decline but to make them happy I accept it. They ask for numbers so they would call the Front desk persons so that you push their CV's. In some cases this works but rarely.
Some will call and plead endlessly but there is little or nothing one can do. I remember a particular man who called, he is married he said " Please help me talk to her I really need this job now" my heart did go out to him but even prior to him speaking to the big boss he was already disqualified. And I could not tell him that " I just said when they are ready you will be called, they are busy now".
I know you are itching to know why he was disqualified, hmmm the answer is at the finish line.

The Truth is that unemployment is one of the biggest challenge in Nigeria whether we agree or not. Online there are job hunters, on the streets job hunters even people like some of us who are working are still job hunting. There are cases where some people have spent amazing number of years looking for job, I mean3-5years or more.
Those who have  good entrepreneurial ideas they do not have enough funding to go about it. Even though the government here in Nigeria, have made available programmes like You-Win and Sure-p to carter for this re-occurring challenge but some of us know the scam behind the Sure-P where the youths don't get paid even though money is been released.

A good number of them rush back to the universities to get a Masters degree. If you have money you go abroad, if you don't you stay here in Nigeria. You need to see the influx of Nigerian graduates applying for a Masters degree, My dear it is like another Immigration exam just that no stampede(I have been there ooo). 80% of Nigerians who go for a masters degree is only because they don't have a Job or good paying ones, they go back to school without any prior working experience. It gets worse because sometimes after these masters yet no show, abeg how we wan take survive?

Some of our youth have joined crimes, drug trafficking, oil vandalism, internet scam, it is only intelligent people that do stuff like that.

How do we solve issues like this? Do we begin to antagonize the government for not do so little severe this problem? or do we blame the youths for having no Jobs?
I don't have a perfect solution for this, but I believe the government needs to do more. Example, the Sure-P is a good idea but there is a lot of syphoning and lies going on there. Nobody checkmates that institution. When money was released earlier this year for the payments of the graduate trainee who have been in the program since last year not many of them have been paid only few of them.
Those who are taking(the collectors who cannot be persecuted) should please use the money here to build organizations that can employ the youths instead of using them in South-Africa.
Our youths also should also make them themselves employable, look good, speak well. And be creative enough to start something on their own if they have little capital. They should be willing to start little(I mean a small pay) at least to gain working experience, from there you can grow if you are determined.

The Answer to the question, what disqualified the man was his appearance, he wasn't properly packaged. The big boss has disliked his appearance even before he spoke, so there was no need for an interview.
Packaging is important. don't over package, don't under package. Don't be trendy, be
stylish.
