PROF DORA DIED OF UTERINE CANCER SAYS FAMILY SOURCES
According to SaharaReporters, Family sources have revealed that Dora Akunyili, a former professor of pharmacy, former director general of the National Agency for Foods and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and one-time Minister of Information, died of complications arising from uterine cancer.
One relative told SaharaReporters that Mrs. Akunyili was completely healthy until she lost the Anambra senatorial election in 2011 to Senator Chris Ngige.
The source stated that, at the end of the legal tussle over the election, the former minister visited the U.S. in 2013 to undergo what she thought would be a routine medical checkup. “Her doctor in America did a hysterectomy and found out that she had a malignant endometrial cancer,” said this source. He added that it was the tumor that eventually took her life last week in a hospital in the Indian city of Bangalore after she had struggled with the disease for two years.

REMEMBERING THE LAST PUBLIC SPEECH OF PROF DORA AKUNYILI,VIDEO & TRANSCRIPT
[Before this speech at the Conference, Prof. Dora Akunyili was asked to sit due to her health condition, but she refused to sit and delivered her speech standing.]
Transcript:
Nigerians have for long clamored for an opportunity such as this to discuss our problems and come up with solutions that will strengthen the bond of our nationhood. I regard this national conference as President Jonathan's best centenary gift to Nigerians, and a proof that he is a listening president.
Mr. President's speech oozes humility, modesty, patriotism and a deep concern for the present and future of this beautiful country, Nigeria. Mr. President in that speech admitted that sovereignty belongs to the people. And those in authority are only holding power on trust for the people and of course that nobody has monopoly of knowledge. Hence, the decision for convening this conference. One thing that stands out from Mr. President's speech is that there is no trace of negativism.

A Father’s Letter to Young Women (About Getting Naked)
I found this piece from my favourite writer Dr kelly and i thought i should share, very inspiring...read on
To Young Women Everywhere,
Several months ago, I wrote these words in a letter to my daughter: “The world wants you to take your clothes off. Please keep them on. But take your gloves off. Pull no punches. Say what is in your heart. Be vulnerable. Embrace risk. Love a world that barely knows what it means to love itself. Do so nakedly. Openly. With abandon.”
They were the most controversial words in a letter that eventually went viral.

Many of you objected to the idea of keeping your clothes on. You lamented purity myths and said being naked is a valid expression of who you are. Young Women, you should express yourselves. You should be unsilenced. You shouldfind your voice.
But your skin is not the final expression of who you are; your skin is the fickle container for who you are.
Millions of people have skin like yours—theirs will wrinkle and fade just like your own—but no one has a heart like yours. Each and every one of you is the home to an entirely unique soul. Your rare wonder and beauty are not expressed in your bare skin; they’re expressed in your bared soul.

FINDING JOY....
many people are like that, unhappy with jobs, unhappy with family, unhappy about school and friends, unhappy with the situation of things around us. Do we then suffer endlessly because things are not the way they are supposed to be?
We ourselves are the only ones who can decide to be happy. There were good moments before we lost the joy, let us remember those moments and savour them. We can find joy if we will look at all we have from the positive side. you know babies have this very amazing glee(Happiness) on their faces when you pick them up(at least most babies do) when they bare tickled the laugh so loud without a care in the world and in that very moment they are happy, their emotions are for the moment they do not carry the emotions over for days. If only we can learn from these little infants, not to carry over the emotions, to enjoy and learn from each moment in that way our happiness will no longer be defined by situations but by total resolution of ones self to enjoy the ecstasy of life. continue...

HOW MISDIAGNOSIS LED TO PROF DORA'S DEATH
When Mrs Dora Nkem Akunyili was the Zonal Secretary (South-east) of the Petroleum (Special) Trust Fund in 1998, Nigerian doctors gave her what many of her family members considered to be a health scare. They said she had a growth and needed surgery. Akunyili, then 44, decided to travel to the United States, first to get a second opinion and then undergo the prescribed surgery.
The bill for the medical trip was $17,000, including $12,000 for the surgery. During pre-surgery check-up in the US, the doctors told her the Nigerian doctors had made a wrong diagnosis and that she did not need any surgery. It was said to be a minor issue that medication would solve. She thanked the doctors and, to their surprise, said she was going to return the money meant for the surgery to PTF. That was strange.
Nigerian government officials had devised a way of making sure such monies were not returned to the treasury. The hospital informed the PTF, under the leadership of Major Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, about one honest Nigerian they had found. Buhari, himself a straightforward person, was very impressed. He wrote a letter to Akunyili commending her honesty.
